Series: Hotels That Live in My Heart: Borgo Pignano

There is no shortage of magnificent hotels and resorts in Italy. This understatement ensures a fertile ground for blog post content, but most of all, it provides a myriad of choices for a variety of tastes. What I have also discovered is loving a newly discovered property does nothing to diminish the love I have for other properties!

While I have sent many happy clients to Borgo Pignano, I have only recently discovered the many charms of this special resort first-hand!

As if out of central casting, Borgo Pignano is everything you would expect of a countryside Tuscan estate. Its history dates back to 1139 and is fascinating. After a scenic drive along winding roads through bucolic landscapes, you gently climb in elevation until you are overlooking the most picturesque countryside in almost every direction. Much of this scenery can best be viewed after passing through the arched entry to the courtyard of the villa. It is impossible not to be impressed with the villa itself and all of the outbuildings including a deconsecrated church and lovely stone maisonettes.

While it is impossible not to be impressed with the structures on the estate, it IS impossible to look away from the endless rolling hills and vineyards that can be seen from the elevated lawn – the same lawn on which to enjoy an aperitivo or a wine tasting experience! This may just be my very favorite spot – to sit, to sip, to be; to watch a sunset.

Borgo Pignano is proud of its commitment to sustainability, and it is evident throughout. The staff is happy to share its vegetable farm; vineyards and pig farm with you.

In addition to a variety of room categories in the main villa, there are multi-bedroom maisonettes with full kitchens and living rooms. All are within yards of the main building. For those seeking more space; more independence; more bedrooms, there are stunning villas dotting the surrounding acreage.

Should you decide to explore the surrounding areas, you will find the charming village of Volterra just 20 minutes away. A little further still is Siena (40 minutes) and Florence (75 minutes).
